Deer Population Dynamics
I’m keeping away from politics in this post. It becomes exhausting keeping up with all the assaults on our freedom from the current administration.
I came across this video from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. I thought it would be very informative. I wanted to share it with the hunters.
Deer season is winding down in most of the country. Here in Michigan, we have had a change in our antlerless tags. You can get as many as 10 antlerless tags. When I first saw this, I thought, what is the DNR up to? Are they trying to eliminate the deer herd by allowing so many doe tags?
The DNR put out a short 5-minute video detailing the reproduction dynamics of the deer herd. Let’s say that they may not reproduce like rabbits, but they are quite resilient. The video allows for a 40% reduction in the herd through the hunting season. It is amazing to see that even at that number it makes little or no impact on the deer population.
I’m not going into any details. I will let the video speak for itself.
You can watch it here.
